Altinkum, Turkey
Altinkum translated means “ Golden Sand”, when you come to Altinkum you can see why the name is so well suited. The beaches are very family orientated and slop gently away, being safe for families with children. The beaches wraps around the picturesque Altinkum Bay which then forms in to 2 beaches at either end of the town. In all there are 3 beaches, each beach has sunbeds and umbrellas if you wish to hire at a very reasonable rate, as well as an abundus of watersports including jet skis, banana boat ride and for the less energetic – pedalos.
There are many bars and restaurants to choose from, from your traditional local restaurant to karaoke bars. And if you talk a evening stroll along the promenade you will find plenty of choice. Altinkum Didim recently open a marina, this has a huge collection of boats big and small and it's own pier and facilities. Visitors and locals together will benefit from a shopping mall, a yacht club and practical things such as more cash machines, shopping centres, hotels along with cafe bars. Altinkum Didim marina is a milestone for Didim and will well and truly put it on the map forever as a prosperous and booming resort.
Apart from swimming and basking on the beach, there is plenty of sight seeing you can do. There are numerous interesting ancient sites you can visit near Altinkum. A short 10 mins journey from the resort center is the Temple of Apollo where you will see the famous head of Medusa adorned with snakes; and you will be astonished with the size of the columns here. If you want longer day out visit, go to see one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the ruins of Ephesus. It is a well-preserved classical city on the Mediterranean, and gives you a feeling of what life was like in Roman times. It is stated that the Virgin Mary, at the end of her life, came to Ephesus accompanied by St. Paul. Also St. John is stated to have survived the final yrs of his life here and after his death, a shrine, the Basilica of St. John was located over his grave.
You can take a boat trip to the Greek island of Samos, Samos lies at the north-eastern part of the Aegean Sea. Visitors are enchanted to see the charming mountainous landscape of Samos with the necessary beauty of the nature and the historical spread all over the island. It is a one-of-a-kind experience. Or perhaps you will enjoy a walk around the beautiful Bafa Lake nearby; it has a magnificent mountain backdrop.
Visit the Didim Aqua Park, merely out and about of Altinkum resort; the Aqua Park was built in 2004 and is very popular. For relaxation and entertainment, there are a massive number of restaurants and waterfront bars open until around midnight; afterwards the celebration atmosphere moves to nightclubs.
